Active Aging
We are all aging! Joesph Pilates said “we are only as old as our spine feels”. In these group classes, we will be specifically working to enhance various body focuses throughout the series starting from the neck and working our way down to the toes. This will include, but not be limited to, stretching, strengthening, balance, coordination, posture and pelvic balance. If you have other common aging concerns such as arthritis, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Disc Herniation or postural dysfunction, it would be preferable to request a mini-consultation to give you the specific attention your body needs and plan our programs with you accordingly.
Mat ScolioCore Pilates – beginner
With over 500 exercises for beginner to advanced, any age, body, or fitness level, Schroth based scoliosis pilates is an exercise program for “every” body. The addition of props including hand weights, stability ball, TheraBand and magic circle keeps our Mat classes fun yet challenging, giving you a sense of accomplishment and empowerment. Modifications and Progressions will be offered as appropriate and, if you have any pain or spine issues that need to be noted by the instructor, a private mini-consultation is always available.
Mat ScolioCore Pilates – Intermediate
Adding on to the things learned in your beginner class, this class will take your strength, balance and coordination activities up a notch. There will be specific focal areas of the body each week so that we can hyper-train upper and lower body separately instead of having a general, overall view of the body each week.
Mat ScolioCore Pilates – Advanced
Our most advanced class, we continue to add on activities and challenges to the body requiring more stability and control of our trunk as we move our limbs against both body and external force resistance. Using smaller and uneven bases of support, our body has to learn how to work harder and for longer periods of time while maintaining our proper posture and alignment corrections. Localized training for balance, strength, coordination and posture will be rotated through to ensure that we are covering all the areas of our body to promote maximal health and strength.
Prenatal Mat ScolioPilates
Take care of yourself while preparing for birth with our series of prenatal classes designed for all stages of your pregnancy! Especially if you have an underlying scoliosis, this class will help you to ensure you are exercising properly for your trimester as well as caring for your scoliosis so that the ligament laxity that accompanies your pregnancy doesn’t impact your spine more than necessary. This is a group mat class using various props and equipment. If you are in your 3rd trimester, wedges will be provided to avoid fully flat lying on your back.
Reconnect and Restore
This class provides you with opportunities for mindful movement and breathwork to center your mind and body while combining Pilates with Schroth scoliosis exercises to find length and stretch into self-guided postural restoration. If you carry tension in your neck/shoulders, have a tight mid or low back and struggle with flexibility, or just feel stuck in your current program, let us help you to reconnect and restore. Breathwork is a crucial aspect of any exercise program but mindful breathwork is often over-looked while we are working out. Learn how to maximize your body’s potential to heal and strengthen using exercises specific for your body. Modifications and progressions will be offered as appropriate and, if you have any pain or spine issues that need to be noted by the instructor, a private mini-consultation is always available.
ScolioPilates for Back care
In these group classes, the exercises will be specifically directed to those with conditions of the spine most commonly Arthritis, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, Disc Herniation, as well as other conditions in the body that cause back pain such as Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and/or Diastasis Recti. To ensure we are giving you the best instruction, we encourage you to complete a mini-consult with one of our spine specialists so your program can be as closely matched to your needs and goals as possible while reducing any risk to your spine. If you do not know or understand the source of your pain OR have not seen a scoliosis and spine physical therapy specialist, then this class is for you.
