I have been very fortunate to work with and be mentored by SEVERAL of the foremost researchers on scoliosis. Sanja Schreiber and Hagit Berdishevsky are regular names you’ll find in the scoliosis research world in addition to being internationally respected instructors and clinicians on the Schroth Method. Though we all admit there is much more research that needs to be done, they have conducted dozens of clinical studies that continue to confirm the effectiveness of Schroth techniques in reducing the progression and/or improving the Cobb angles in scoliosis patients. One study found that untreated scoliosis patients had nearly 3X the rate of scoliosis progression compared to those who underwent scoliosis specific exercises (Schroth).
Another study examining Vital Lung Capacity (VLC) showed that the Schroth treatment group demonstrated a 50% increase in their VLC and 20% improvement in chest expansion compared to their baseline at the start of the treatment.
